The President of the Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”), Dr. Patrice Motsepe, has warmly congratulated Ms. Kirsty Coventry on her historic election as the new President of the International Olympic Committee (“IOC”).

Ms. Coventry, who currently serves as Zimbabwe’s Minister of Youth, Sport, Art, and Recreation, has broken new ground by becoming both the first African and the first woman to hold the prestigious position of IOC President. Her remarkable leadership, dedication to sport, and tireless efforts in promoting youth development and inclusion have earned her international respect and admiration.

In his message of congratulations, CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe stated:

“On behalf of the CAF Member Associations, representing all 54 African nations, we extend our sincere and heartfelt congratulations to Ms. Kirsty Coventry on her well-deserved election as President of the IOC. This moment is a source of immense pride for Africa and is a testament to her lifelong commitment to excellence, integrity, and the ideals of Olympism.

Ms. Coventry’s journey, from her achievements as an Olympic gold medalist to her leadership roles in sport and public service, continues to inspire millions across Africa and around the world. Her election also represents significant progress for gender equality and African representation at the highest level of global sport governance.
