Following their 1-0 win over Maritzburg United at the Athlone Stadium on Saturday afternoon, Cape Town Spurs made it two out of two in their PSL Promotion playoff attempt on Wednesday, June 7th.

In the Premiership promotional/relegation playoff game for the Premier Soccer League (PSL) on 10th June 2023 Saturday afternoon at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium, Maritzburg United defeated Casric Stars with a convincing 2-0 victory.
The victory maintained the Team of Choice’s chances of remaining in the PSL, as they are three points behind the Cape Town Spurs in the playoff standings before their matchup against them on Wednesday in Pietermaritzburg.
Casric, on the other hand, completed their playoffs campaign with a disappointing defeat’, having lost all of their matches in the competition, and they will compete in the Motsepe Foundation Championship again next season.
The Team of Choice dominated the contest from the start, and Karim Kimvuidi pushed goalie Ludwe Mpakumpaku into a brilliant save in the 12th minute.
However, Mpakumpaku was defeated three minutes before the half-hour mark when Amadou Soukouna set up Rowan Human, who surged into the Believers’ box before scoring to give the visitors the lead, and Maritzburg led 1-0 at the break.
Casric struggled to break through the Maritzburg defense after the restart, prompting coach Bucs Mthombeni to bring on former Kaizer Chiefs offensive midfielder Given Thibedi in the 57th minute.
Both teams launched attacks in the final 20 minutes of the game, and Rafiq De Goede scored the visitors’ second goal of the game in the 71st minute, beating Mpakumpaku with a beautiful finish to seal Maritzburg’s 2-0 victory.
