The Luxembourg Premier League
The National Division was known as the BGL Ligue before to 2011, when the Luxembourg Football Federation won a sponsorship arrangement with Fortis.
Before 2006, the league had twelve teams, but it rose to fourteen the following year and has been there ever since. F91 Dudelange is the current champion.
With the exception of 1912-13 and four seasons during World War II, the competition has been held every year since 1909-10.
It was known as the Luxembourgish Championship prior to 1913-1914 (Ltzebuerger Championnat, French: Championnat Luxembourgeois). It was known as the Premier Division from 1914-15 to 1931-32 (French: Première Division; Luxembourgish: Éischt Divisioun).
From 1932-1933 until 1956-1957, the Division of Honour (French: Division d’Honneur; Luxembourgish: Éirendivisioun) was held. Since 1957-1958, the league has been known as the National Division.
